There’s something different about being recognized at home.
Tootoo: The Jordin Tootoo Story has taken us across the country, into theatres, arenas, and remote Arctic and BC communities we’ll never forget. We’ve felt the impact, seen the response, and watched this story resonate in ways we could only hope for when we first started.
We’re incredibly honoured to share that the Edmonton Arts Council has awarded Tootoo the Edmonton Film Prize: https://bit.ly/4cTlytU

To be recognized by your own city, the place where the work is built, where the grind happens, where the team comes together, means a lot. Thank you to the Edmonton Arts Council and the city of Edmonton.
Edmonton doesn’t just talk about supporting artists; it shows up. Creating a meaningful cash prize like this isn’t just recognition, it’s belief. It’s an investment. It’s a city backing its storytellers and saying, keep going.
This Story Belongs to Jordin
At the heart of all of this is Jordin Tootoo.
From day one, Jordin trusted us with his story, the highs, the pain, the loss, and the healing. That kind of honesty isn’t easy. It takes real courage.
What he shared goes far beyond hockey. It’s a story about mental health, trauma, resilience, and the strength it takes to break cycles and choose a different path forward.
Jordin didn’t just tell his story; he opened a door for others to feel seen, to speak up, and to know they’re not alone.
If this film has made even a small difference in pushing the conversation around mental health and suicide prevention forward, that’s because of him. We’re just grateful we got to help bring it to the screen.
Thank you again to the Edmonton Arts Council for this honour, and congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and winners. It’s inspiring to be part of such a strong creative community.
From Edmonton, For Everywhere
This award is a reminder of where it all starts, the early days, the small rooms, the belief before anyone else sees it.
Edmonton is home, and this one means a lot.
We’re beyond proud of this film.
We’re proud of our team.
And we’re just getting started.
