22 Years in the Making: ScoreG Is Finally Heading to Hollywood

On September 18, FUNNY MONEY: THE DANE COOK STORY will make its world premiere at the iconic American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, followed by a special Q&A with Dane Cook. And honestly, we couldn’t be more excited.

The ScoreG team has never had that true, classic Hollywood premiere. We came close with INMATE #1: THE RISE OF DANNY TREJO and BISPING: THE MICHAEL BISPING STORY, but COVID robbed those films and our team of that moment.

Now, after 22 years together, we finally get it.

Brett Harvey, Stephen Green, and I first crossed paths back in 2004, when we had the crazy idea to make a documentary about the Canadian cannabis trade. That film became THE UNION: THE BUSINESS BEHIND GETTING HIGH, an unexpected cult classic that helped change the way people around the world viewed cannabis. What followed has been one hell of a journey.

Together, we’ve made six feature documentaries that have been distributed around the world: two cult-classic cannabis films that challenged decades of misinformation; ICE GUARDIANS, one of the most celebrated hockey documentaries ever made, which brought humanity and understanding to the role of the enforcer; INMATE #1, the definitive story of ex-con turned global icon Danny Trejo; and BREAKING OLYMPIA, the incredible story of Phil Heath that many critics hailed as the best bodybuilding documentary since Pumping Iron.

More important than the films, Brett, Stevo and I became lifelong friends. That is what makes this premiere so special.

To finally have a proper LA world premiere, at the legendary Aero Theatre, with a film many are calling director Brett Harvey’s best work yet, is something none of us will take for granted.

FUNNY MONEY: THE DANE COOK STORY is about much more than a bio doc. It is a gripping story of fame, family, greed, betrayal and survival. At the height of his career, Dane wasn’t simply selling out arenas; he was redefining what a stand-up comedian could be. Then the person he trusted most stole millions from him and changed his life forever.

We are incredibly proud of this film and of Brett’s extraordinary work.
